The Abaad Center for Strategic Studies held a dialogue space on the evening of Wednesday, January 29, 2025, via the (X) platform, under the title:

The Gaza Agreement, Its Aftermath, and Washington’s Expected Policies

Participate in the dialogue:

Khaled Khalil – Researcher specializing in Israeli affairs.

Maher Hijazi – Palestinian writer and researcher.

Qutayba Idlibi – Researcher at the Atlantic Center in the United States of America.

The dialogue was moderated by Ayham Maqdisi, Research Assistant at the Abaad Center for Strategic Studies.

Discussion has focused on the aftermath of the Gaza agreement, with attention turning to future US policies in the region. Washington is expected to play a key role in consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring the implementation of the agreement’s provisions. The agreement raises questions about the extent of America’s commitment to pressuring the various parties to ensure its effectiveness.

Speakers added that the US administration may seek to strengthen its diplomatic role by offering security guarantees to Israel, in parallel with efforts to rebuild Gaza and contain any potential escalation. The agreement is also expected to impact Washington’s relationship with its regional allies, especially given the competition for influence in the region.

Speakers noted that the cessation of hostilities is part of a broader strategy aimed at pushing regional allies and Israel to implement the “Deal of the Century,” proposed in 2017. This plan offers an alternative homeland for Palestinians in exchange for economic incentives, including the construction of modern cities similar to those of Singapore or Dubai, in exchange for territorial concessions. These moves reflect the risks threatening the Palestinian cause, as Washington continues to gradually liquidate it through intensifying political and economic pressure.

The most important question remains: Will the United States be able to turn the agreement into a starting point for lasting stability, or is it merely a temporary truce in a long-term conflict?

The speakers concluded that the success of the agreement hinges on Washington’s ability to strike a balance between its commitments to Israel and the demands of stability in Gaza, amid complex regional challenges that could reshuffle the cards at any moment.
